Our Founder A. J. "Art" Ryan, SR.
Archibald John "Art" Ryan, SR. was born December 18, 1892 in Bement, Illinois, and graduated from Hammond High school in 1910. He taught in rural schools of Platt County, Illinois before he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Sargent during the First World War in 1917 and 1918.
Mr. Ryan married his lifelong wife, Genevieve M. Ratty, in Chicago in 1924. The newlyweds ventured south for their honeymoon and experienced the wonders of South Florida and decided to move permanently to Dania Beach.
He established A. J. Ryan Realty in 1924 and the family operated real estate office continues to operate as the oldest real estate brokerage office in Broward County.
Mr. Ryan was very involved in civic activities, he served as President of the Hollywood-South Broward of Realtors and President of the Florida Farm Brokers Institute. He was elected to the initial Broward County Port Authority and he was instrumental in its development, serving as Chairman of the Port Authority for eight years starting in 1931.

Genevieve Ryan was just chosen as Realtor of the Year for the state of Florida. She was the first woman to win that award. Genevieve was also President of the National American Legion Auxiliary. A. J. Ryan, SR. was just elected President of the Florida Farm Land Brokers. A. J. Ryan, JR. John Ryan's father was a member of the Florida House of Representatives and later was a member of the Florida Senate.
